On-Air Operating Rules

A reminder of the on-air operating rules for local radio amateurs and for visiting guests.

Dear radio amateur, below are the operating rules in the Republic of Estonia that apply to ALL radio amateurs without exception, both visitors and locals.

When you are using CEPT-license in Estonia on HF, you should not sign /P. CEPT-rules for ES callsigns are the following:
prefix letters «ES» and a digit showing the location of an amateur station in territory of Estonia during the temporary stay <stroke> ( / ) own home call sign and <stroke> ( / ) «M» (when mobile) or «P» (when portable - used only when operating with VHF/UHF/SHF handheld equipment) or prefix letters «ES» and <stroke> ( / ) own home call sign <stroke> ( / ) «AM» (when airborne mobile).

Examples: ES1/SO2TT/M - mobile - from a car
ES1/SO2TT/P - portable - handheld radio
ES/SO2TT/MM - Maritime Mobile - from a ship at sea
ES/SO2TT/AM - Airborne Mobile - from an aircraft

When using a CEPT licence on HF in Estonia, you must not sign /P in the sense of "field operation". The CEPT rules for ES call signs are as follows:
the prefix letters «ES» and a digit showing where the station is located in Estonia during the temporary stay, <stroke> (/), your home call sign, and <stroke> (/) «M» (when mobile) or «P» (portable — used only when operating handheld VHF/UHF/SHF equipment), or the prefix letters «ES», <stroke> (/), your home call sign, <stroke> (/) «AM» (when airborne mobile).

In Estonia there is NO "/P for field" option. There is only "/P for portable", and only when operating a portable (VHF/UHF/SHF) station above 30 MHz.

Local stations operating away from home add a stroke and the number of the county they are in.

Any station signing /P as "field" from HF equipment is not counted in any contest or award. This violates the current operating rules and may lead to suspension of the amateur radio licence.

Examples:
ES1/SO2TT/M - mobile - from a car
ES1/SO2TT/P - portable - handheld radio
ES/SO2TT/MM - Maritime Mobile - from a ship at sea
ES/SO2TT/AM - Airborne Mobile - from an aircraft
For locals:
ES4AW/1
ES1LL/4/MM
ES4AW/1/M
ES4AW/2/P (only from a handheld VHF-UHF radio)
